The True Autumn color palette (also called Warm Autumn) is rich, golden and earthy: rust, terracotta, olive, mustard, teal and camel. What is the True Autumn color palette?
True Autumn is the warmest of the three Autumn types in 12-season color analysis. Warmth leads and softness follows. The palette looks like autumn leaves and spice jars: rust, paprika, saffron, moss and copper, with deep teal as the cool-looking exception that still has warmth in it.
True Autumn characteristics: how to tell if you are one
True Autumns usually have medium coloring with medium contrast. Typical signs:
- hair in copper, auburn, golden brown or warm chestnut, often red in the sun;
- eyes in warm hazel, amber, golden brown or green with gold flecks;
- golden or peachy skin;
- silver jewelry, blue-pinks and icy colors make your skin look grey.
A quick test: compare a rust top with a fuchsia one. If rust makes your skin glow and fuchsia makes it look pale, you are on the True Autumn side.
How to wear True Autumn colors
Camel, khaki, olive brown, coffee and chocolate are your neutrals, with cream as your white. Rust, terracotta, olive, moss, mustard and teal are everyday colors, and burnt orange or paprika make strong statements. Orange-based reds look natural on you. Tortoiseshell frames, gold hardware and textured fabrics such as tweed, suede and corduroy finish the look.
Colors a True Autumn should avoid
Black, pure white, icy pink, cool fuchsia, royal blue, lavender, blue grey and silver grey are your colors to avoid. They are too cool or too stark for your golden coloring. Wear them away from your face and keep a warm color near it.
True Autumn makeup, hair color and jewelry
Warm nude, terracotta, rust red and brick lipsticks suit you, with apricot or peach-bronze blush. Bronze, copper, olive and forest green work well on the eyes. Hair looks best in copper, auburn, golden brown or warm chestnut; ash tones and blue-black drain you. Yellow gold, copper, bronze and brass are your metals, with amber, tiger's eye and turquoise.
True Autumn vs Soft Autumn vs Deep Autumn
True Autumn sits between Soft Autumn and Deep Autumn. Compared with Soft Autumn, it is richer and more saturated: if rust and mustard look better than sage and dusty coral, True Autumn fits. Compared with Deep Autumn, it is lighter and more golden. Its cross-season neighbor is True Spring, which is clearer and brighter.

Are you really a True Autumn?
If you are torn between True Autumn and Soft Autumn or Deep Autumn, compare two colors from each palette under your chin in daylight; the one that makes your skin look smoother and your eyes clearer wins. A photo is a second opinion: the free selfie analysis reads your skin, hair and eye colors, and the color analysis quiz works without a photo. If it says Autumn, the paid report tells you whether you are this type or a neighbor, with a printable True Autumn color card. See pricing.
